Just a point of clarification:  the Clay County REC takes no position on any Republican candidate in any race. Once the primary is over and we have a Republican representative in that race we give our full support to that person.

The REC encourages its members to work for any Republican candidate they choose to.  Many of our members work for their favorite candidate in the primary which is encouraged.  After the primary, we focus all our County REC resources and energy of our volunteers on seeing to it that the candidates chosen by the Republican voters in the primary get elected!

Congratulations:

Because of strong county leadership and volunteer efforts, we have successfully flipped two counties to a Republican majority. At the county level, both Gilchrist and Flagler have overcome their Democrat registration advantage, making them red counties! Congratulations to them for their hard work!

Voter Registration:

The February numbers are in! We have continued to shrink the Democrat's registration advantage over Republicans statewide. The gap shrank in one month from 483,669 to 448,304 (4.27% to 3.94% difference).

In one month alone, we gained a total of 28,232 Republicans (which includes new registrants and party switches), while the Democrats have lost 7,133 registrants (which includes people leaving the party and new registrants).

The numbers are good, but we need a strong effort on all fronts to continue holding the line and pushing on the voter registration advantage the Democrats have statewide.

Last night we had a terrific guest teach us about the campaign process and she shared some great insights.  Thanks so much to Gov Scott's Campaign Manager, Susie Wiles for taking the time to enlighten and empower the Clay County REC!

Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos has dropped out of the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate. This move was expected by many insiders who saw that the Haridopolos campaign might be unable to rebound from too many self-inflicted
wounds. I personally expected Haridopolos to drop out of the race at some point, but not this early in the campaign. Haridopolos made his announcement in a taped video message- see video below.

This certainly changes the dynamic of the race, as it may result in an Adam Hasner vs. George LeMieux showdown, aka as Rubio v. Crist Rd. 2.  Hasner has long been a staunch ally of Senator Marco Rubio, and George LeMieux is one of
Governor Crist’s closer confidants that helped Charlie Crist’s rise to power. On the ground, Rubio supporters are heading towards Hasner while the Crist loyalists are already behind Senator LeMieux.

The Government Gone Wild program was a huge success and we would like to again thank them for coming in and doing a terrific presentation.

The REC will be taking June and July off though the REC Board will continue to meet the 2nd Monday of each month at 7p in the REC Headquarters at 793 Blanding Blvd, Suite F, Orange Park.

Precinct Committee Representatives are encouraged to help us fill the vacancies that exist in several precincts around the county by bringing it up to your friends and neighbors while at community bar-b-q's and get-togethers.

We'll see you at our next REC meeting on 22 August 2011 at 7:30p (7p Social). Have a great summer!
